Sometimes, because of incorrect setup or multiple push subscriptions across browsers. You or your visitors might get push notifications twice. However, this is not always a bug; you can unsubscribe from one.
There are various reasons for you to receive two push notifications. We have explained different cases below –
Case 1 – If your site’s visitor had subscribed twice; through Single Step & Two Step Opt-in with quick install on, it can lead to seeing notifications more than once. Two notifications will be seen by those old subscribers who would have subscribed during the time there was a different Opt-in style (any double step).
Single-step Opt-in is the pop-up that can be clicked only once by the site visitor to subscribe to your notifications. Since the subscription happens on your domain name, the same URL is shown on the push campaign. Whereas, Double step Opt-in is a customizable pop-up that needs to be clicked twice to subscribe. Also, since the subscription happens on the PushEngage sub-domain name, yourwebsite.pushengage.com is shown on the push campaign.
Note: The website URL shown on the campaign is just an indication of where the final subscription has happened, but the Notification URL you add while creating a campaign is landing URL that opens when a customer clicks on push campaign
Please be assured that this happens only for few subscribers who must have seen two popups. New subscribers will not get duplicate notifications.
Case 2 – If you have subscribed to a website’s notifications from multiple browsers, you will get notifications more than once.
You can stop receiving duplicate notifications by choosing which Browser you want to continue receiving notifications from & disable notifications from the other one. For more details on how to unsubscribe from notifications, you can click here
Troubleshooting Tips
F
Mac OS does not show the sub-domain name if the site visitor subscribed through a two-step Opt-in. It will show only the sub-domain site name. Example – If the site name is yoursite.pushengage.com, the notification will show pushengage.com, where the domain name will not be seen. This is the limitation with Operating system and screen size.
Windows OS shows both names in the notifications. For the same example, it will show abc.pushengage.com.
